SDR-Receiver Is Now Available on the Mac App Store

After months of development, SDR-Receiver is officially live on the Mac App Store. It’s a native macOS app built for anyone who wants to plug a USB software-defined radio into their Mac and start listening, watching, and decoding — without wrestling with clunky, cross-platform software that was never really designed for macOS in the first place.

What SDR-Receiver Does

SDR-Receiver turns your Mac into a full-featured SDR receiver console. Connect a supported USB radio, and the app gives you a fast, Metal-accelerated spectrum and waterfall display, band and memory markers, and all the standard reception modes you’d expect — WFM, NFM, AM, USB, LSB, and CW — complete with squelch and AGC controls.

But the real draw is everything built on top of that foundation. SDR-Receiver includes over 25 built-in decoders covering a huge range of signal types: ADS-B and AIS for tracking aircraft and ships, ACARS and APRS, POCSAG paging, RDS, CW/Morse and speech, HF Fax and SSTV, WSPR and the FT8/FT4/FT2 digital modes, ALE, RTTY, NAVTEX, DSC, Selcall, EFR, and time signal standards like DCF77, MSF, WWVB, JJY, and TDF. Whether you’re into ham radio, aviation and maritime monitoring, or shortwave listening, there’s a decoder for it.

A few features stand out:

  • Live transcription and translation — SDR-Receiver can transcribe foreign-language broadcasts in real time and display translated text as the audio comes in.
  • Live mapping — Decoded ADS-B and AIS data gets plotted directly onto a map, so you can watch aircraft and vessels move in real time as their signals come in.
  • EiBi shortwave database integration — The app cross-references the well-known EiBi database to help identify what station you’re actually hearing.
  • Full I/Q recording — Record the entire spectrum, not just a single demodulated signal, then play it back later and retune anywhere within the recorded bandwidth.
  • Automatic scanning — Let SDR-Receiver search across a frequency range on its own and stop when it finds activity.
  • Activity-based audio recording — Capture traffic only when something is actually happening, instead of hours of dead air.

SDR-Receiver works with the SDR hardware most people already own or are likely to buy: RTL-SDR dongles, HackRF, Airspy and Airspy HF+, the FUNcube Dongle Pro+, ADALM Pluto, Microtelecom Perseus, and the Icom IC-R8600.

Availability

SDR-Receiver requires macOS 26 or later and is available now on the Mac App Store for $49.99. Family Sharing is supported for up to six family members, and the app collects no user data.
